About Our Studio

We offer traditional piano and guitar lessons one hour each week. The first half-hour of the piano lesson is a traditional lesson with the teacher in the studio. The second half-hour is spent in the music lab. This is where we can enlarge upon and reinforce the musical goals that are being worked on in the studio.

We also offer classes in sight singing, music theory, music history and how to read musical notation. These are offered either privately or in classes. Email or call us for information.

Taking Private Music Lessons

We give traditional music lessons. They work like this: the student (and parent, if the student is under 8 years old) comes to our studio once a week for one hour. Then, and here’s the important part, the student (and parent, if the student is under 8 years old) reviews and practices playing the material the teacher has assigned on their own instrument at home on the days between lessons. The skills needed to learn to play an instrument, read music and understand how music is put together, need daily reinforcement. This work is done at home. It is difficult for any age student. It is even more difficult if daily practice is not done. This work should be considered by the parent as important as doing school homework.

For guitar lessons, the student needs a nylon strung guitar, preferably a classical guitar. If you’re not sure what this is, please call and ask us. Also, if the lessons are for a child, a 3/4 size guitar may be needed. The teacher can determine this when he sees the size of the child.

For piano lessons, the preferred instrument is an acoustic piano (that is, not electric). If you want to start with a "keyboard" to see how well your child enjoys the learning, please purchase a full-sized keyboard with a damper (or sustain) pedal, a stand for the keyboard and a bench. The keyboard should also have a music rack.

We teach all year. We offer 42 lessons a year. The tuition is $140 per month per student. For piano, the materials start-pack is $55. All music and materials sold to the student is in addition to the tuition.
